Our prices reflect and align with our core belief that a private criminal defense should be accessible and achievable for everyone.
$150 up to $750
Our prices for expungements, also called expunctions, vary based on the type and age of the charges you need help resolved. If you were found not guilty of charges or the charges were dismissed, our fee will be lower. If you have multiple convictions, serious convictions, or other unfavorable circumstances in your case, our fee will be higher because of the additional time and work necessary to address your record.
Basic Misdemeanor Defense
$300 up to $1,000
Basic misdemeanors include charges like simple possession of marijuana, city code violations, simple assault, resisting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting a police officer. In some cases, we can defend more serious charges for this amount if your prior record is good and the circumstances are favorable for a plea.
Serious Misdemeanor Defense
$1,000 up to $3,000
Serious misdemeanors include charges like possession of drug paraphernalia, larceny, possession of stolen goods, damaging real or personal property, communicating threats, prostitution, solicitation, assault with a deadly weapon, assault inflicting serious injury, assault on a female or a government employee, violation of a restraining order, and sexual battery. Serious misdemeanors also include basic offenses that, because of your prior record or unfavorable circumstances, mean you could be exposed to stricter sentencing. This also includes cases involving potential deportation if you are not a United States citizen.
Low-Level Felony Defense
$2,000 up to $4,000
Low-level felonies include charges like embezzlement, obtaining property by false pretenses, and possession and sale of controlled substances in low amounts. In some cases, we can defend more serious charges for this amount if your prior record is good and the circumstances are favorable for a plea.
Mid-Level Felony Defense
$4,000 up to $8,000
Mid-level felonies include charges like violent assaults, involuntary manslaughter, habitual DUI/DWI, common law robbery, possession and sale of controlled substances in mid-level amounts, and some sexual offenses. Charges like these pose a risk of lengthy prison time. In some cases, we can defend more serious charges for this amount if your prior record is good or the circumstances are favorable for a plea.
High-Level Felony Defense
$8,000 and up
High-level felonies include charges like voluntary manslaughter, murder, armed robbery, drug trafficking, severe child abuse, and rape. Charges like these pose a risk of decades in prison and, in a case of first-degree murder, life in prison or death by lethal injection. Some charges like first-degree murder could require 100% of our time for many weeks or months, and we need to consult with you about your particular case in order to quote a fair fee.
College and University Proceedings
$500 and up
These proceedings can include charges like sexual assault and rape. Whether you are a victim or have been accused of wrongdoing, these hearings and findings of responsibility can have severe and lifelong consequences. Colleges and universities increasingly investigate, publish victim’s names, and punish students for alleged crimes without the same procedures and protections as criminal court. We can represent you, take steps to assure your rights are protected, and set the stage for relief in court if a college or university violates your rights.
Criminal Appeals and Post-Conviction Motions for Relief
$5,000 and up
Criminal appeals to state and federal appeals courts or other post-conviction motions for relief often involve extensive written submissions, oral arguments before panels of judges, and analysis of voluminous court records. For instance, our fee for appeal from denial of a motion to suppress in a DUI/DWI case to the North Carolina Court of Appeals will generally be between $10,000.00 and $20,000.00. Some appeals could occupy the majority of our time for many weeks or months, and we need to meet with you to discuss your case in order to quote a fair fee.
Federal Misdemeanors and Felonies
$5,000 and up
Federal misdemeanors and felonies include generally the same type of conduct as state misdemeanors and felonies, only they occurred on federal property or concern a federal interest like interstate commerce. Federal criminal charges generally more costly to defend than state charges because of the rigor and particular characteristics of the federal justice system. If you are facing a federal misdemeanor or felony charge, please contact us for a consultation.
Department of Social Services (DSS) Defense
$2,500 and up
If you or someone who lives with you has been accused of child abuse, neglect, or similar wrongdoing, your county department of social services (DSS) can begin a process in civil court to limit your parental rights or take away your children altogether. We can represent you in the process to assure that your rights are protected. Our fee for services depends on the particular circumstances of your case, including if criminal charges have also been filed.
Why we disclose our prices
We believe every part of this process — including our prices — should be open and transparent. It’s not a popular approach (most law firms don’t do it) and maybe some will consider it impolite, but we believe we can better help and serve your needs by establishing trust long before we even start on your case. If you have questions about our prices, please contact us.
Forms of payment accepted
We accept cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards. For your convenience, you can pay in person, by mail, or online. We also may be able to accept other forms of electronic payment (Venmo, PayPal, etc), which we can address in your individual case if you’re interested.
